[How-To Guide] Duplicate Theme Files From WordPress Admin Panel

There are number of times when clients refused to provide FTP access to site and the worst part is that without any FTP access you are not able to create new template files and neither duplicate any existing template file. While finding the ways to create a new template file, I came across a plugin – Theme File Duplicator Plugin. It is a free plugin and you can download it from wp-plugin directory easily.

The best thing I like about this plugin is that it save you from renaming, downloading and re-uploading any file via FTP. By using this plugin you can clone an existing template file from WordPress admin area in no time.

Step1: First download the plugin (download link after end of post) from wp-plugin directory and install it. After installing the plugin, activate it.

Step2: After activating plugin, go to Appearance and click on “Add Page Template” as shown below:

Step3: As soon as you click on “Add Page Template”, a new window open (as shown below). Now you can easily create or duplicate any file without any access to FTP.

Isn’t it great, pretty good as it resolves my problem and hope it helps you out also. One more thing I like about this plugin is that it is fully compatible with child themes.

Remember before making any changes make sure that you backup database using BackupBuddy.
