Headway 3.1.1 Released

Few days back a new version of Headway Themes is released – Headway 3.1.1. This new version comes with addition of new features, changes and bug fixation. It is recommended to update your Headway to latest version as soon as possible, Before updating Headway to latest version, backup your site and if you are looking for a great, reliable solution for backups, we highly recommend BackupBuddy. Additions

Added a small indicator beside layouts that have children in the Layout Selector
Headway now makes sure WordPress 3.2 (or higher) and PHP 5.2 (or higher) are installed
The Visual Editor now invokes a warning if you try to access it using Internet Explorer

Changes

Added public/protected/private and static (if applicable) in front of methods/properties in every single class.
Custom Code, Media, and third-party blocks now do not output their content in the Grid. This keeps bad custom code from breaking the Visual Editor.
Re-added CSS “overflow: hidden;” to all blocks
Significantly decreased the opacity of the block type text overlay in the Grid mode and made the block dimensions tooltip transparent.
When hovering over a block, the delay (where you have to hold your cursor in the block) is more than 2x longer to invoke the block dimensions tooltip
All block types now mirror when the layout is cloned via the Grid Wizard. Previously, the Content blocks would not be mirrored.

Bug Fixes

Improvements to the Grid Renderer. With the improvements in 3.1, some layouts that should’ve been possible weren’t rendering correctly.
Mass Block Selection mode should work properly now
Text selection issue addressed in the Grid with the block dimensions tooltip
Properly localized the comments_number() reference in the Content block
Posts/pages and terms without names now show (No Title) when they’re listed in the Layout Selector
Optimizations to the JavaScript in the Visual Editor to decrease memory usage and improve loading times when switching layouts
Preview button now works properly in Grid mode after switching layouts

Updating

Update is available via automatic updater in the WordPress admin panel or you can also upgrade by downloading Headway 3.1.1 from members Dashboard and uploading it via FTP or the WordPress Theme update. Headway 3.1 Released

Finally, after a lot of wait Headway Themes launched the new version of Headway, i.e., Headway 3.1 and it is recommended to upgrade Headway to latest version as soon as possible. Before upgrading your site to latest version make sure you have a Backup, even though if you mess-up with everything, then you can easily backup and that too without any hassle.

Headway 3.1 Features

Grid Renderer – The Grid Renderer (previously called the layout renderer and henceforth abbreviated GR) now supports sub-column layouts. Before 3.1, the GR was still capable of create incredible layouts, but 3.1 takes it even further. If you wish to have a sidebar and then have two smaller sidebars directly below it, you can now do that and the GR will not flinch. You may wonder why this took so long to create, but the logic, conditionals, and math that is behind the GR is incredibly complex.

Navigation Block – We have added some great changes to the Navigation Block, but we’ve also removed some extraneous HTML elements. To be specific, we remove the that surrounds the text inside of every navigation menu element. If you’re styling this element directly, then you need to change it to the parent hyperlink. Another problem with the navigation block is that if you added to many items, then it would not expand. Now, it will. However, to do this, we have to change the Navigation Block to be a fluid height block rather than a fixed height block. Also, the Navigation Block now outputs actual CSS heights and line-heights for the items so you may have to update your child theme (or Live CSS) accordingly if you notice that your Navigation block look larger than normal. Finally, you can now add a search box to your Navigation Block. You can do this directly from the Navigation Block settings.

Rejoice! Both block widths and heights are shown in the Visual Editor. Plus, you can see the block dimensions in all 3 modes!
The Design Editor has been improved. The Uncustomize/Inherit Property buttons now properly show the changes immediately.
For the key shortcut fans out there, Live CSS can now be toggled be toggled with Ctrl + E

Navigation Block: The navigation block is now a fluid block meaning that overflow items will no longer be truncated. The menu will properly expand.
Responsive Grid: The navigation block no longer sets items to 100% width when the responsive grid is enabled and a phone is viewing the website. The navigation block will expand vertically.
Responsive Grid: If the responsive grid is enabled and a user chooses to disable it, then it sets the wrapper to a static width and keeps the percentages on the grid widths rather than completely switching back to pixels. This reduces e amount of CSS used and insures that the layout will look the same.
Visual Editor: Changed the order of the Block Config settings to Mirroring, Block Style (if applicable), CSS Classes, Alias, Responsive Block Hiding (if applicable)
Visual Editor: Block Bottom Margin setting has been moved to a new panel tab named Spacing in the Manage Mode
Visual Editor: Removed Wrapper settings from the Manage Mode
Visual Editor: Color inputs in the Design Editor now default to transparent if they’re uncustomized
Visual Editor: Clicking on Customize Property in the Design Editor will automatically push the value so you can save.

Bug Fixes

Admin: Changed how admin separators are added. This improves admin menu ordered when Jigoshop or other plugins are added.
Admin: remove_theme_support(‘editor-style’) now properly disables the Headway editor style
Admin: Fixed an occasional error on line 159 of api-admin-meta-box.php that would create problems with Contact Form 7 and various other plugins.
Admin: Headway editor style should now properly fetch the body hyperlinks color
Admin: The ‘Disable Headway Caching’ checkbox in Headway » Options will now properly reflect its value
Content Block: Fixed the styling of pingbacks to properly match the comment styling

Today, Headway 3.0.5 is released and it is recommended to upgrade your Headway powered site to latest version as soon as possible. This release comes with lots of changes, fixing bugs and adding new features. Responsive Grid — Automatic optimization for mobile devices! Can be enabled from the Grid mode under Setup » Responsive Grid
Grid Wizard
Admin: Added an option to disable Headway caching directly from Headway » Options.
Admin: Added an option to remove query variables from enqueued static assets such as CSS and JS files. This will help to leverage browser caching.
Admin: Added a new meta box to posts and pages that allow you to add custom classes to posts or pages. The clases will be added to both the body and the containing <div>
Visual Editor: Mirrored blocks now say “Mirroring ##” beside the block ID
Visual Editor: All fluid height blocks now say “Height will auto-expand” at the bottom of the block

Headway 3.0.4 Released

Headway 3.0.4 is released with big changes and addressing two small bugs that cause you not to save when you were using either the custom code block or the live CSS editor. One notable change you see that home-brewed updater has been moved to the WordPress updater as it causes problems with some people’s web hosts. In addition to this, 301 Redirect feature have been added to the Search Engine Optimization panel for all posts and pages.

As always, the update is available via automatic updater in the WordPress admin panel or you can upgrade by downloading Headway 3.0.4 from the Member’s Dashboard & upload it via FTP. Headway 3.0.3 Released

Bug Fixes

Data Handling: Changed how multi-dimensional arrays are saved to the database. This should resolve any issues with BackupBuddy or any other plugin that clones a WordPress installation.

Data Handling: Many issues with blocks not saving or deleting have been resolved

Content Block: The Content Block now properly changes the titles from <H1>, <H2>, or <H3> depending on which page is being viewed

Multi-site: If it’s a network setup and the site being viewed isn’t the main site, then Headway requires HEADWAY_ALLOW_NETWORK_PHP_PARSING to be set to true for PHP to be parsed.

Headway 3.0 Beta 1 Is Out – Download Now

Finally after a long wait, Headway 3.0 Beta 1 has arrived! As mentioned in previous articles Headway 3.0 is a radical change as compared to Headway 2.0. Here are the number of features which comes with Headway 3.0

Leafs → Blocks

Even though leafs have been an integral part of Headway’s success, we thought it’s time to call them something different. Now, leafs are known as blocks. We hope this will clear up some confusion.

The New Visual Editor

The visual editor is now broken into 2 different modes: Layout and Design. Also, Headway 3.0 brings the brand new layout/page selector.

Layout/Page Selector

Besides the new grid system, the new layout and page selector in Headway 3.0 is extremely powerful.

In Headway 2.0, you had to edit each and every page. Not only was this a pain for the user, it wasn’t efficient. Those leafs had to be stored in the database somehow. Also, you were limited to which pages you could edit. Now, with 3.0, you can edit absolutely any page, single post, custom taxonomy, custom post type, and any other type of page you throw at it!

Another new and great thing about the Layout Selector is that it’s completely hierarchical. You can edit as few pages as you’d like or you can get down and be make finite changes on individual pages.

So, if you have the top-level ‘Single’ layout customized, all layouts under it will inherit upwards and use the ‘Single’ layout. You can also drill down to a layout under ‘Single’ and create a layout for it. All layouts under ‘Single’ will inherit up and use the ‘Single’ layout, but the separate layout you customized will use its own. It’s that simple!

Layout Mode

As soon as you enter the layout mode for the first time, you will see the layout/page selector to the left and a blank grid to the right of that. Please note: Headway 3.0 Beta 1 does not have any default layouts.

To create a block, just click and drag. A popup will appear asking you which block type you would like to assign to the new block.

This new grid system has been written from the ground up and works entirely different than Headway 2.0 and previous versions of Headway.

Known Issues

As mentioned above, it is a beta version, so like every beta version there are number of known issues and are listed below:

Box shadow and text shadow properties do not work in the Design mode.

There are a limited number of blocks at this time. We’re working quickly to add more (image rotator, etc).

Comments do not work under the content block.

All SEO settings are removed at this time.

All admin options under Headway » Options are removed for Beta 1

In earlier post, I have already shared few features of Headway 3.0 and now today Headway Themes comes out with a teaser video (video available after end of post).
