[How-To Guide] Change Primary Domain Of Hostgator Account

Hostgator offer shared, reseller and vps hosting. If you buy any hosting plan from Hostgator, then you have to use existing domain name or you have to buy a new domain name with hosting plan. In earlier posts, I offered you how-to guide on Installing WordPress on Hostgator and how-to guide on adding add-on domain in Hostgator.

After buying hosting plan you can easily change primary domain (i.e., the domain associated while buying web hosting account). This post focus on changing Primary Domain Name on Hostgator.

Step1: Log-in into Hostgator Billing Panel.

Step2: On left-hand side click on “Hosting Packages –> View Hosting Packages” (as shown below):

Step3: When you click on “View Hosting Packages”, you see a new window. On new window click on “Change My Domain” (as shown below):

Step4: When you click on “Change My Domain” again a new window open, where you have to enter new domain name in the box (as shown below) and click on “Update Domain” button to change the domain name.

Step5: Congratulations, you have successfully change the Primary Domain Name.

These basic tutorials make you familiar with WordPress. Already, I have offered how-to guide on Back-Up WordPress Database by Using PHPMyAdmin and now in this post I offer you a step-by-step guide on resetting password from PHPMyAdmin.

Step1: Log-in into cpanel by typing

http://domainname.com/cpanel

Step2: Now in cPanel, click on PHPMyAdmin option as shown below:

Step3: Now, in PHPMyAdmin you need to select database from left hand side.

Step4: After Selecting database look for file name wp_users (as shown below) and click on it.

Step6: Clicking on “pencil icon”, open a new screen (as shown below):

Step7: To reset password you have to edit user_pass field value. In above field (marked by 2) it contain random characters in password field.

WordPress automatically offer a lot of security options and try to lower the loop holes for hackers. The reason for random characters is that WordPress store password in MD5 HASH format than storing it in plain text.

Step8: WordPress store password in MD5 HASH format, which mean you are not allowed to enter password in plain text. To reset password you need MD5 generators, such as JavaScript MD5 (convert plain text into MD5 format as shown below).

For me the plain text is “WebGuide4U” and the result (as shown above in random characters)

Step9: Now copy result and paste this value in user_pass field on right hand side (as shown below){compare the value in step6 and step9 you find the difference}. After pasting new value click on “Go” button to reset the password.

Step10: Congratulations, you have successfully reset the WordPress Password from PHPMyAdmin.

[How-To Guide] Change Auto-Generated Password In WordPress

Already, In earlier post I talk about recovering password in WordPress. Now you have recover forgotten password and this password grant access to admin panel.

Remember, this is an auto-generated password which you have to change. Changing auto-generated password is quite easy and anyone can change it in few minutes. Just follow step-by-step guide on changing auto-generated password.

Step1: Log-in into wp-admin panel.

Step2: In WordPress Dashboard, you see that it is asking you to change auto-generated password.

Step3: Now, click on “Yes, take me to my profile page” option and it will redirect to profile page, where you have to change the password (as shown below).

Step4: Congratulations, you have successfully change the default auto-generated password.

Continuing in same series of basic tutorial on WordPress, this post focus on recovering password in WordPress.

Step1: First type URL of your blog and it is something like this:

http://yourdomainname.com/wp-admin

Step2: After typing this URL in browser, you have been ask to give username and password (as shown below).

Step3: In case, if you forget password and want to recover it, then click on “Lost your password” (as shown below).

Step4: After clicking on “Lost your password”, you have been redirect to new screen as shown below:

Step5: Now you have to type your email or username and click on “Get New Password” (as shown below).

Step6: After hitting “Get New Password” button, you will see a new screen (as shown below). Now you have been ask to log-in into inbox and click on confirmation link.

Step7: After clicking on confirmation link in inbox you will see a new screen (as shown below). Now, you have to again check your inbox for new password.

Step8: In e-mail inbox you will get your username and password. Now simply put that username and password in required fields and log-in into wp-admin panel.
